Are you the kind of person who likes to batch your email writing for the month? Or are you the kind of person who waits until the last minute to hit send? Either way, you don’t have to worry about figuring out what to send in October because I’ve got you covered with four engaging email prompts for you to send this month so your list will love you even more before the holiday selling season rolls around.

Email #1: A Sweet Treat

When planning what to send in October, we naturally think of Halloween and trick or treat. Let’s be real. 2020 has had enough tricks already. How about a sweet treat instead? Not a big Halloween fan? No biggie. October also happens to be National Cookie Month.

So what kind of treat should you send them? Here’s a few ideas to get you going:

  • PDF download (people LOVE these!)
  • Free worksheet
  • e-Book
  • Create a YouTube video
  • Free masterclass
  • Sweet discount for one of your products
  • Free access to a mini-course for a limited time

There are so many ways you can show your list that you care about them and their success.

If you’ve already given them a free PDF or worksheet, using that freebie as a basis for a free masterclass, Zoom call or Facebook live is a great way to help your people get the most out of your content. Plus, it shows that you can help them with their problems which goes a long way into establishing credibility.

With Black Friday & Cyber Monday coming up, you want to make sure your people know without a doubt that you’ve got exactly what they are looking for.

Email #2: It really grinds my gears when…

The second week of October is Pet Peeve Week. This is a great SOMETHING to use to send an email about anything in your industry that makes you cringe. Maybe someone in your niche says that the only way to sell high-ticket coaching is through a sales call. And while that may be true for her, you know for a fact that high-ticket sales can and DO happen with Facebook posts because you do it all the time.

You don’t have to stick to talking about what ticks you off about your niche. You can talk about something your spouse or your children (or even your dog) does that drives you up the wall and then parlay that into something that has to do with your topic.

These types of emails are super interesting for your readers.

One of the ways I like to transition from talking about a pet peeve to the topic you write about is “which got me thinking about…”. By using that transition, you can tell two completely different stories and make them relatable and entertaining.

For example, if your niche is wedding photography, you might say:

“I got so annoyed yesterday when I was weeding the flowerbed (again). Why do I have to do this every single week?? That got me thinking about how the only reason I even care is because I don’t want the neighbor’s yard to look toooo much better than mine.

Bridal photography is the same way. So many brides stress about getting certain poses in their shoots because that’s the way their friends did it. The problem is, what works for them might not be the best for you!”

By telling a story and sharing a pet peeve, you’re letting your readers get to know you a bit better while also helping them with your topic.

Email #3: A Surprising Way to (blank)

This email is a great follow up for the pet peeve email. If you’re a nutritionist, maybe your pet peeve is how the ‘gurus’ are telling everyone to skip breakfast and you know it wrecks their metabolism.

So you would finish up the pet peeve email with something like:

“I know a lot of people are going to try intermittent fasting because they want to lose weight. Next week I’m going to tell you a surprising way to shave calories without starving yourself that no one talks about.”

See how those two emails lead to each other? People are naturally going to want to find out what that tip is

You’re going to give them a tip that isn’t talked about much in your industry, like:

  • A surprising way to get new clients.
  • A surprising way to knit faster.
  • A surprising way to get your kids to listen to you.
  • A surprising way to create a healthy meal plan

What is something that would generally surprise people that they never think of? You’d be really amazed at some of the basic things that people don’t think of.

For example, if your emails are about Instagram growth, you might say in an email about a surprising way to get new followers on Instagram:

“A lot of people don’t know that an optimized Instagram profile is a great way to get new followers. Your bio and description comes up in searches so be sure to include your keywords to get even more followers!”

These are always fun and entertaining. You can invite them to reply back and tell you some of their secret tips.

Email #4: 3 Things I’m Loving Right Now

What have you tried recently that you love? What are some tools or apps that you’re using? What is something that you love binge-watching? What are you reading right now?

Even if the things you love don’t have anything to do with your niche, you can still talk about it. People love learning more about you. For example, I’m loving my air fryer right now. It’s amazing. I could always tie it in with business by talking about how I’m eating healthier and have more energy since I’ve been using it which is making me way more productive.

The “3 Things I’m Loving Right Now” email is also a great way to talk about affiliate products you love and use, podcasters or YouTubers that you listen to when you start your day, your favorite tools and tech, or anything else you want to talk about.

Remember, the more the people on your list feel like they know you, the more they are going to connect with you and ultimately buy your products, coaching, or programs.send in october

What to Send in October Rundown:

  • A sweet treat: some type of free download, a pitch-free webinar, an exclusive Facebook Live masterclass, or some type of discount or coupon.
  • National Pet Peeve Week: What happens in your industry that annoys the crap out of you? What happened recently that got on your nerves (and how can you relate that back to your business)?
  • A Surprising Way to (blank): Share a little-known tip or trick that relates to your niche.
  • 3 Things I’m Loving Right Now: Make this one fun. This can be something related to your niche like books, courses, routines, or anything else.

Of course, if you’re not loving any of these ideas and you’re still stuck on what to send in October, you can always send your latest blog post, a link to your YouTube, Instagram, Facebook Lives or anything else that you’ve already created.

If you’ve fallen off the content creation hamster wheel, you can also use these prompts to create new content. Then you don’t have to worry about what to send in October because you can just send them to your new content. Win!
