People Don’t Hate Getting Emails,

They Hate Getting BAD Emails.

But that won’t be a problem for you after hitting the button below…

What To Send Your List in July

???? Rather listen than read this post? This post is based off of Episode 138 of the Inbox Besties Podcast Listen on iTunes| Stitcher | Spotify ????

Stuck on what to send in July to your list? Use these four email prompts to get a jump start on your email marketing this month.

We all know that writing emails can take a while but when you have a head start it makes it so much easier. Using these prompts can make sending emails to your list the most fun (and profitable) thing you do in your business! The good news is that none of these require that you create a blog post or sell a product.

If you haven’t already, you can head over to katedoster.com/2years to snag your free weekly newsletter planner with over 2 years worth of strategically planned email ideas that work for any niche. When I’m deciding on what to send each month, sometimes I go with the planner and sometimes I like to spice it up a bit. The most important thing is for you to not go radio silent on your list because you don’t know what to write.

Email #1: Monthly Theme or Observance

If you’re like me, you love quirky holidays and observances. July has a great one with “anti-boredom month”. So if you’re stuck on what to send this July, take that topic and run with it.

You can customize your Anti-Boredom month email for your topic with this framework:

(blank) ways to spice up your (blank)

  • 7 Ways to Spice Up Your Facebook Ads
  • 3 Ways to Spice it Up in Your Bedroom
  • 5 Ways to Spice Up Your Chicken Dinner
  • 4 Ways to Spice Up the Relationship You Have With Your Children
  • 3 Ways to Spice Up your Coaching Calls to Get More Sales

It’s basically 5 or 7 or however many ways to keep your audience entertained and have some fun in keeping in line with anti-boredom month.

Mention the observance in your email to make it fun and interesting since not a lot of people are aware of anti-boredom month like this:

“Hey, (name) in the spirit of anti-boredom month – which July is officially – I decided to share with you my top 5 Activities to Do With Kids so You Don’t Have to Hear “I’m bored” Every 5 Seconds”

Then all you have to do is share a link to a blog post, a video, your Facebook, or your Instagram where you share your tips. If you don’t have anything already there, you can give them the goods right there in the email.

This is a playful, light-hearted email. You’re not sharing 100 tips or a whole 2,000-word blog post so keep it fun and easy to read. Remember, people are reading their emails to be entertained or get a quick shot of inspiration or motivation.

Your audience is going to love the material and message you’re sharing and tying it in with a fun theme like anti-boredom month keeps it interesting and relevant. Share some of your personal stories of how you’ve figured it out the hard way so you can save them from going through the same struggles you did.

Email #2 – Super Simple Email Sentence Starter

This one works well as a sales email or in any other situation that you want to establish yourself as the go-to expert. Don’t worry if you don’t have a paid product yet, this works great for preselling your offer or for any affiliate product too!

If you’re stuck on figuring out what your people are itching to buy from you, check out Ditch the Ish. It’s a pay-what-you-can 12-day audio sales bootcamp. All sales go to charities and organizations that support marginalized communities.

The email you can send in July that can make you some serious moula and help you connect with your audience is:

“Why most ____s fail”

  • Why Most Diets Fail
  • Why Most Blogs Fail
  • Why Most Facebook Ads Fail
  • Why Most Knit Hats are Fashion Fails

Stuck on what to send in July to your list? Use these four email prompts to get your email marketing taken care of. The good news is that none of these require that you create a blog post or sell a product if you don’t have anything to sell right now #katedoster #inboxbesties #whattosendinjulyYes, you can take the rosy approach and flip this into something positive like ”3 Secrets to Making Professional-looking Jewelry that People Want to Wear” but it’s not going to have the same impact.

When you use the sentence structure that says why things fail or why things go south – especially if it’s something you know because you’re an expert who has done it a gajillion times, it really can help people avoid making mistakes that they didn’t even think about.

When you’re writing your “why things fail” email this July, you can keep your list short and sweet.

List the three or five main stumbling blocks that your audience typically faces on the way to success. For example, if your email is “Why Most Blogs Fail”, you could list 3 reasons like sales, SEO, or Pinterest strategies.

Or you could go deeper into one big reason like time management to lead into a sales conversation.

Start your email off with the main reason why _____ fails and then follow it up with your solution to their problem.

“The reason most blogs fail is because you’re not managing your time properly. Why is that? It’s because you don’t know where to focus your time and energy. That’s why in (product) we have A, B, C, and D so that you know how to prioritize your day and get the most important tasks done. And because we’ve fallen off the time-management horse too, we’ve also made sure to include special Bonus Y so you can avoid the 5 major time-wasters every blogger faces. You can get it right here for as little as (price)”….

That’s half your sales email right there!

This is all coming from a place of caring and wanting to see your people to succeed. Take some time to really think about this. What are the common mistakes your audience makes? What are the myths, the mindset blocks, and the yea-buts that are holding your people back?

If you don't have anything to sell, send your email list your best advice or some quick tips. Click to Tweet

If you don’t have anything to sell, just give them your best advice or quick tips.

The most important thing is that you don’t get stuck on what to send in July and sharing your shortcuts with your audience is a great way to help your people. After all, that’s what they signed up for, right?

Email #3 – Share Your Personal Growth

When you share what you’re doing to work on yourself, changes in your business, or ditching bad habits, it helps your readers get to know you and your brand a bit better.

Right now, a lot of us are taking a massive look at how we are representing our businesses and our brand when it comes to things like the Black Lives Matter movement. We’re looking at how we have our own biases. We’re asking ourselves if we are showcasing People of Color. This is important as a conscious business owner, especially if you’re B2B. You can send an email in July about how you are incorporating these things into your life.

If you’re in the crafting niche, you can share the changes you’ve made in your techniques or your style. Or maybe you’ve made changes to how you structure your day so you can have more time to craft and get more done.

Sharing the changes you’ve made or the new habits you’re working on lets other people see your journey and growth and you can always relate it back to your business and why people should care.

You can send a July email that says “changes I’ve made this month” and give your readers a peek behind the curtain.

When you talk about those things, it matters. People really do care about your personal habits and love to hear what’s going on behind the scenes. Plus, it brings a sense of camaraderie to your email list.

Make this a 2-way conversation. Ask your email list what new habits they are incorporating for the month of July. Share where you’ve failed and what you’re trying now and ask them to share their favorite tips to help you succeed. Create an atmosphere of “we’re in this together”. Again, it’s a two-way conversation that you’re having with your email audience.

Speaking of your audience…

Email #4 – Shout-Out & Showcase

This one is really fun and super-easy to write. If you’re in a pinch, start out with this one first since it takes almost no time to do and your audience will love it. Then you can figure out the rest of what to send in July later.

All you have to do is ask one question in your subject line, “Can I showcase your work?”

In your email, you’re going to ask them about whatever you help people with. Whether it’s ukulele skills or dealing with toddler tantrums, Instagram Stories tips, or creating better quality videos, you’re going to ask your subscribers if you can shout them out.

“Hey! I really wanted to showcase your (blank). Can you take a picture so I can showcase you on Instagram?”

Or

“I want to let the world know how amazing your progress is with (blank). Tag me on Instagram so I can share your work!”

This can be tweaked to work with virtually any topic or niche. If “can I showcase your work?” doesn’t work for what you do, you can change it to “Hey, can I share you with my audience?”

For example, if you’re a lifestyle blogger who talks about fashion, you might want to say that you want to share some viewer outfit pics.

How fun is that?

All you have to do is explain it and then later on down the road, you go ahead and feature your readers. You can talk about it in an email and your social media channels (now you’ve got another email AND new social media content).

Don’t be afraid to ask your audience to show off their progress from a freebie you’ve created.

If your freebie is about how to knit the perfect hat, how fun would it be to showcase a ton of hats your fans have created with your help?

So there you go…

4 emails you can create in a flash when you don’t know what to send in July!

I’d love to see what you’re working on too. Go ahead and snap a pic or send me a link to where you’re creating your emails and tag me over at @kate_doster on Insta so I can shout YOU out too.
