Stuck on what to name your product?
You’re not alone. As a matter of fact, coming up with a name is one of the biggest hurdles people face when it comes to launching their new offers!
If you’re like most people, you have tons of ideas for products and programs but when it comes to naming it, you draw a blank.

Name your product the easy way with these five easy-to-follow formulas
The first thing to keep in mind is to keep your product name simple and results-oriented.
Because the truth is when naming your product, clear wins over clever every time.
Don’t get me wrong, everyone wants to have a cool product name but if it confuses people or it’s not clear what they get when they download or what results they can expect, you have to work ten times as hard to get them to buy
When it comes to writing copy (and naming your product is a part of that), you always want to use words that people naturally gravitate towards. This is applies to naming everything – from your products, course, program or freebie.
Magical words to include in your products name:
- Breakthrough
- Easy
- Exclusive
- Fast
- Hidden
- Proven
- Revealed
- Results
- Secret
- Simple
- Truth
- Unique
These words automatically convey that you can help your people get results, that you are sharing the insider secrets that they desperately want and that you can be trusted to help them reach their goals.
Now that I’ve laid the ground work, let’s dive in to the secret-sauce for naming your thing!
5 Formulas to Name Your Product
#1: So that, results
The way this one works is simple and straightforward. This type of name wouldn’t appeal towards a woo-woo product or freebie since it can come across as too direct and even a little aggressive, depending on what words you choose.
Example: “Objection Crusher! Never have to hear ‘I want to think about it’ again”
#2: The Captain Obvious
This one is (obviously) stating the obvious. It’s a no-brainer, direct and to the point without being as in your face as the “so that, results” method.
Example: 110 Hashtags Every Coach Must Know
The key takeaway in this example is that the product name lets them know that it is just for health coaches. If you just said coaches in general, it wouldn’t be as effective. When you zero in on a very specific niche and let them know that this product or freebie or course is literally made for them it is much more compelling (and profitable).
#3: The Unique Twist
The Unique Twist is one of my favorites because it catches people off guard. With this formula for naming your product or program, you want to highlight something unconventional about the way your method is successful or something that seems counter-intuitive.
Example: The Cookie Diet
No one thinks of diets and cookies at the same time. But by implying that they can get their pre-baby body back and eat cookies, you’re going to pique their interest (and sell your program).
#4: Alliteration & Rhyming
Humans are strangely attracted to alliteration and rhyming. We have been fascinated with alliteration since we were babies. If you have little ones, you probably have Dr. Seuss ingrained in your subconscious… Hop on Pop, Horton Hears a Who, The Cat in the Hat.
The same reason toddlers will sit still to hear Hop on Pop (again) is the same reason why naming your product with the same strategy is effective. We just can’t help it!
You can use online tools like Thesaurus.com or Rhyme Zone to help you come up with words that rhyme or start with the same letters.
Examples: Fast Five, The Name Game
If alliteration or rhyming doesn’t seem to work when it comes to naming your product, don’t force it. Move on to another strategy (after all, you’ve got 5 here to choose from).
#5: From and To
This is one of the easiest formulas to follow when it it’s time to name your product. It is also amazingly effective for coming up with catchy taglines.
All you do is describe where they are at right now (the from) and what their goal is after purchasing your product or taking your course.
Examples: From Frumpy to Fancy (how to dress to impress without breaking the bank), Fast Five – How to go from a hot mess to a giant success
Bonus Tip:
If you follow these formulas when coming up for a name for your product, you’ll already be ahead of the crowd but there’s one final tip I want to share with you and that’s what I like to call “Power Words”.
Power words are similar to the magically attractive words I listed at the beginning. The difference here is that these words are BOLD. They imply action, results, a game plan. These words instantly let your audience know that your product is a winner.
What are some Power Words?
- Amplify
- Blueprint
- Master Plan
- Maximize
- Method
- System
Try to combine one of the five tips I shared with you with a Power Word for a dangerously effective name for your product, program, course or freebie.
Examples: E-Book Maximizer Plan, Fit in Five Blueprint
